Jackie Chan in Cannes Film Festival

While the actress let their flamboyant dresses do the talking on the red carpet, kung fu superstar Jackie Chan made sure he made a lasting impression with a martial arts display on the steps of the Palais.

Jackie Chan, who is at the festival to promote his new film Kung Fu Panda, brought along his two new protégées Liu Fengchao and Wang Wenjie, star of the upcoming Chinese drama Wushu, which Jackie is producing.

Jackie Chan just went to Chengdu, the quake-hit city of China's Sichuan province last Friday to personally donate food and drinks to quake victims.

Jackie Chan in China EarthQuake City

Kung Fu superstar Jackie Chan arrived in Chengdu, the earthquake-hit capital city of southwestern China's Sichuan Province on Friday . Jackie donated food and drinks to the badly-hit city of Deyang and visited the injured in some of the other worst affected areas like Mianzhu. He is the first celebrity to come to the quake-hit areas.
After offering his condolences to the victims, Jackie Chan sang with local people and encouraged them to band together to overcome the disaster. His message can now even be downloaded to MP3 player for the earthquake victims.

Before coming to Chengdu, Jackie gathered about one hundred pop stars from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea to record a song, "The Promise", on Thursday evening to aid in the donating efforts.

Jackie Chan and Hong Kong Emperor Entertainment Group donated 10 million yuan to the quake-stricken Sichuan province on Tuesday.

The Celebrities Who Lend Voice in "Kung Fu Panda"

The movie "Kung Fu Panda" features Jack Black, who heads the voice cast as Po the Panda, a lowly waiter in a noodle restaurant, who is a kung fu fanatic but whose shape doesn't exactly lend itself to kung fu fighting. Po is also the laziest of all the animals in the Valley of Peace. With powerful enemies at the gates, all hope has been pinned on an ancient prophesy that a hero will rise to save the day. But among all the martial arts masters who come forward, none has shown the mark of The Chosen One until now. When Po unwittingly shows up in the midst of the competition, the masters are shocked to see that this unmotivated panda bears the mark. Now it is up to them to turn this gentle giant into a kung fu fighter before it's too late.
Dustin Hoffman will voice the role of Shifu, the by-the-book and tough-as-nails Kung Fu master, who has been given the unenviable task of turning the undisciplined Po into a Kung fu fighter.
Jackie Chan will lend his voice to Master Monkey, a strong, agile and dedicated kung fu warrior, who serves as a daily reminder to Po of everything he is not yet.
Angelina Jolie will play Tigress, a martial arts master who joins in training Black's Po the Panda in the art of kung fu.
Lucy Liu is the voice of Master Viper, another of Po's teachers, who can be coy and feminine when she needs to be, but can then uncoil the lethal kung fu warrior within.

Ian McShane (Deadwood) will be the voice of the villainous Tai Lung, a ferociously powerful snow leopard, who breaks out of prison, intent on using his kung fu skills to destroy the Valley of Peace.

Kung Fu Panda is being directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne and produced by Melissa Cobb. "Kung Fu Panda" is set to premiere in May 15 2008 at the Cannes Film Festival.

Jackie Chan Goes to Bollywood

Jackie Chan is ready for his Bollywood close-up, according to reports.

" India is the world's biggest market for movies. I want to do a film here. I am eagerly waiting for a good project," Jackie Chan said at last Saturday's launch of the soundtrack of Tamil film Dasavathaaram (Ten Avatars), with a rumored budget of $20 million.

Chan and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan attended the launch in Chennai as guests, although neither appears in the film nor on the soundtrack. Jackie Chan was in India at the invitation of Dasavathaaram producer Oscar Rvichandran.

Jackie Chan to fight Russian Champion Boxer in Beijing Olympics

Jackie Chan, international Chinese kung fu star, has agreed to an exhibition fight in Beijing Olympics with Russian boxer Kostya Tszyu, a Russian media reported yesterday.

"Jackie Chan gave his approval, saying he liked the idea", the organiser, Tatyana Trubnikova said. "But we need to receive permission from the Chinese Olympic Committee, as Chan is China's official face for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing."

She said that if permission is given, the bout will take place on 22 or 23 August in Russia House, the official accommodation for the Russian delegates during the Beijing Olympic Games (August 8-24).

The bout between Jackie Chan, 54-year-old Hollywood star, and the 38-year-old Australia-based Russian boxer, an undisputed junior welterweight world champion, will be held as part of festivities for Olympic boxing.

Jackie Chan & Jet Li "Forbidden Kingdom" Tops US Box Office

Jackie Chan and Jet Li, actors cum kung fu masters, labelled a martial arts dream team, had their first movie matchup "The Forbidden Kingdom" debuted at No. 1 with $20.9 million in ticket sales.

The movie is about an American teenager hurtled back in time to a kung fu adventure in ancient China. "The Forbidden Kingdom" features superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li in multiple roles and their first big-screen duel.
"I couldn't believe it had never been done before," said Harvey Weinstein, whose Weinstein Co. released "The Forbidden Kingdom" along with partner Lionsgate.

With a PG-13 rating in North America, "The Forbidden Kingdom" apparently proves a family friendly film compared to more action-intense martial arts flicks.

"I have three daughters who have never seen a martial arts movie, and they loved this," Weinstein said. "A lot of females identify with it. That's the audience that's going to grow. I think we'll get young girls and moms next weekend".

Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung in Beijing Olympics 100 Days CountDown

Yesterday, celebrities like Nicholas Tse, Joey Yeung, Lin Chiling attended Beijing 100 days Countdown to the Olympics. They are among the 100 celebrities and stars from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, like Jackie Chan, Ekin Chou, Jolin Tsai, Wang Li Hom, Stephanie Sun, JJ Lin who sang the Countdown song titled "Beijing Welcomes You".

Nicholas Tse said he might attend the Beijing Olympics with his wife, Cecilia Cheung if time permits. And he was heard teasing Joey Yeung when she told the press that the Olympics event that she most looked forward is diving,"You like to watch topless guys, don't you?".
Taiwanese celebrity, Lin Chiling (see pic below) said she was excited to sing for the Beijing Olympics.

Jackie Chan & Jet Li New Movie :"The Forbidden Kingdom" Premiere

Jackie Chan and Jet Li's new KungFu movie, "The Forbidden Kingdom”, premiered in Beijing yesterday. The public screening is set on 24 April.

Jackie Chan and Jet Li, along with director Rob Minkoff, action choreographer Yuen Woo Ping and actresses Liu Yifei and Li Bingbing, had earlier met the press at a media event in Beijing on April 14 to promote the movie. Rob Minkoff is also director for animated movies like "The Lion King", "Stuart Little" and "The Haunted Mansion".

During the Beijing premiere yesterday, Jet Li had brought his daughter (see pic below) along and managed to steal some limelight from the other actresses.

The movie revolves around a Kungfu-obsessed American teenager (Michael Angarano) who somehow time travelled into ancient China where he meets up with some martial art masters and sets on a quest to free the Monkey King.

The critics are lukewarm about the new KungFu movie.

"The Warlords" Wins Big in Hong Kong 27th Film Awards

Historical epic "The Warlords" dominated the Hong Kong Film Awards on Sunday scooping eight gongs including best film and best actor in martial arts star Jet Li. The film, set in wartime 19th century China and with an all-star cast -- including Hong Kong heartthrob Andy Lau who missed out to Li for best actor -- scooped best director for Peter Chan and best film at the glittering ceremony.

"If I had not made a lot of kung fu films, I could have won the best actor award 20 years ago," Jet Li (see left pic) said in his acceptance speech.

Andy Lau, who was nominated for awards in two separate roles, scooped up the supporting role for his performance in "Protege," which also won best film editing. The movie is a crime thriller about an undercover policeman seduced by the lifestyle of his mafia boss, played by Andy Lau.

"I was told that if I played this role, I would be respected by the entire film industry," he said picking up the best supporting actor award.

However, Andy Lau, who is also a singer, missed out on best original song, which went to the theme from "Love is Not All Around."


The celebrity-mad Hong Kong press pack was out in full force at the red carpet event, as hundreds of screaming fans waved banners and cheered a string of glamorous leading ladies and men as they arrived outside the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Controversial Second World War Epic "Lust, Caution" from director Ang Lee won the best Asian Film Award.

The film has faced a tough time from mainland censors for its explicit sex scenes and its subject matter of a government that collaborated with the Japanese occupation. Lee was not in Hong Kong to accept the award.




The best actress award went to Siqin Gaowa for her lead role in the quirky "The Postmodern Life of My Aunt," about a woman in her 60s who falls for an amateur Peking Opera performer, played by megastar Chow Yun-fat.

Prolific director Johnnie To enjoyed a better return than his blank score last year, with his crime flick "Mad Detective" winning best screenplay after drawing plaudits at last year's Venice film festival.

To also produced "Eye in the Sky" which won best new director for Yau Nai-hoi and best performance by a newcomer for actress Kate Tsui.

The professional achievement award was given to much-loved comic actress Lydia Sum, better known as "Fei Fei" (literally meaning "Fat Fat") who died from cancer earlier this year. Her daughter, Xinyi, accepted the awards on her behalf (see pic).

The lifetime achievement award was presented to Hong Kong movie boss Raymond Chow.

Chow's Golden Harvest studios helped produce a string of talent from the former British colony, including action star Jackie Chan and martial arts legend Bruce Lee.

Jackie Chan Honours Parents in Australia

Hong Kong-born action film star Jackie Chan paid tribute to his late parents and his Australian roots on Sunday by funding a new science education centre at the country's top cancer research institution.

Chan and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd opened the Jackie Chan Science Centre, at the Australian National University, paid for by Chan's donations to cancer research in honor of his parents, who were long-time residents in Canberra.


Chan made an initial donation to cancer research in Australia in 2002 after the death of his mother, Lee Lee Chan, and was back in Canberra for Saturday's funeral for his father Charlie, who died on February 26, aged 93. "My father passed away last week. So it is about time I did something for Canberra to remember my parents. I really thank you Australia and Canberra for taking care of my parents for 46 years," Chan told reporters.

Neither Chan nor the Australian National University would comment on how much Chan had donated to cancer research, although the university said the donations were "substantial."
Chan's parents settled in Canberra in the early 1970s, where his father took a job as the head chef at the United States Embassy before becoming a successful local restaurant owner. Before his career in film, a young Chan lived in Canberra for a couple of years, attending college and working as builder's laborer, where he was given his now famous name Jackie as a nickname by fellow workers, who struggled with his Chinese name.

Rudd, who was elected to power in Australia last November, hosted a dinner at his official residence on Saturday for Chan and his family, as well as diplomats from China and the United States. Rudd, who speaks fluent Mandarin, discussed ways Chan could help Australia strengthen its ties with China, which is now Australia's biggest trading partner.

Chan, who is an ambassador for the Beijing Olympics, invited Rudd to attend the Olympics later this year, and said he would be available to help Rudd at any time, but he refused to say how.
"There' some secret, I cannot say it," Chan said. "I've known Kevin for a few years. Whenever he calls, I'll be there."

Jackie Chan's Dad dies!

Jackie Chan is in mourning after his father, Charles Chan, died of prostate cancer in a Hong Kong hospital on Tuesday at age 93.

Jackie's wife, former actress Lin Feng Jiao and his singer-actor son Jaycee Chan were by the older Chan's side when he died. Jackie Chan was also due to fly to Australia where the funeral will be held and where his father will be buried with his mother, Lily Chan, who died in 2002. He was reportedly calm when he heard news of his father's death and even continued his filming.

Brief bibliography of Jackie Chan's Dad :

- Born in China as Fang Daolong;
- Former Kuomintang secret agent who fled to Hong Kong from communist Chinese in 1951; later changed his name to Charles Chan Chi Ping to hide from the communists.
- Charles had two sons with his first wife who died in 1947; He fled China, leaving his two young sons behind when the communists came to power in 1949. But in 1985, he reunited with his two older sons in China.
- Jackie was born to him and his second wife Lily in 1954 when he worked as a cook for the French embassy in Hong Kong.
-Charles later went to Australia to be a chef at an embassy while his wife worked as a maid. They left Jackie, then a little boy, to board at a Peking Operal school, where Jackie reportedly had very harsh training with 2 other Hong Kong KungFu stars, Hong Jin Bao & Yuan Biao.
